In past years, one of the biggest struggles each and every company faced was that of reams of paper that contained the design of the plant or process, the operating procedures, maintenance requirements, or actions to take in the event of an incident. In today ’ s computer controlled world that information is now stored in various management information systems such as SAP, People Soft, Maximo and plant historian systems such as IP21, PI, PHD and others. The technology now exists to be able to interrogate the information in these “ silos of data ” . Not only can we now interrogate disparate sources of information such as process data from the DCS, the daily maintenance activity from Maximo or SAP, and the number of people on site from the gate logs, the ability exists to integrate this information and present it to those faced with the day-to-day operational pressures in a format that enables them to make better informed decisions.
